Medium Comments Are Hard To Read

I like to read Medium articles when taking a break from work. Not much of a break, I know, since I am still sitting at my desk, but it’s nice to take 10 minutes to decompress and look at something that is not work.

Because I mostly read Medium while working, I use my desktop workstation and principally my middle 30", 4K monitor.

On my monitor, Medium comments are hard to read. They open at the extreme right of the screen in a column layout.

How the comment section looks on my 4K, 30" screen. At least I don’t use my ultra-wide screen for reading.

To read the comments and also to comment myself, I have to shift my seat to the right and slide my keyboard and mouse along if I intend to write a comment.
Alternatively I can reposition my browser so it’s more centered, but since I read articles in a zoomed in mode, that also doesn’t work all that well. I also don’t like to change my browser aspect ratio for work reasons that are way too technical to cover here.

While not a deal breaker, it’s mildly annoying.

Ideally, I’d like to see some kind of user customization of the comments column. Being able to center it would be great.

While I am at it, there are a few other issues with Medium’s UI that I’d like to address.

I like to use “Dark Mode” when reading, but whether on my desktop or my iPad, Dark Mode is applied…
